Mission

EMPOWERING BIRTHING PEOPLE TOGETHER

Compassionate support for birthing people navigating mental health, recovery, and postpartum transitions.

Approach

💛 What is MA Mom Advocates (MAMA)?

MAMA is a free, community-based support program for birthing and postpartum people. We offer advocacy, care coordination, and practical support during pregnancy and the first year after birth — especially for those navigating perinatal mental health challenges, substance use or recovery, and major life transitions.

🤍 Who is MAMA for?

MAMA supports birthing people and new parents, including those experiencing:

  • Perinatal depression, anxiety, or trauma

  • Substance use or recovery during pregnancy or postpartum

  • Dual diagnosis (both mental health and substance use challenges)

  • Housing instability, system involvement, or limited support

If you’re pregnant or postpartum and need support, you’re welcome here.

🌱 How does support work?

You’ll be paired with an Advocate who offers relationship-based, individualized support. This may include:

  • Help navigating medical, behavioral health, or recovery care

  • Support attending appointments

  • Care coordination across systems (healthcare, housing, benefits, education)

  • Emotional support during postpartum transitions

  • Practical support like transportation assistance or essential items

We move at your pace and center your choices.

🤝 How long can I receive support?

Support is available for up to one year after birth, with flexibility to extend when more time or care is needed. Healing doesn’t follow a strict timeline.

🌈 Will my Advocate understand me?

We do our best to match participants with Advocates based on identity, lived experience, language, or preferences when possible. All Advocates practice trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and culturally responsive care.

🔒 Is this confidential?

Yes. Your privacy matters. What you share with MAMA is confidential, with limited legal exceptions related to immediate safety. We are always transparent about confidentiality and your options.

💸 Does this cost anything?

No. MAMA is a free resource.

✨ What if I’m unsure about reaching out?

That’s okay. You don’t need to have the right words or a clear plan. You can reach out just to ask questions or learn more — there’s no pressure or judgment.
